DESCRIPTION:

During playback of a vinyl record, the needle, moving in the groove of the sound track, creates mechanical vibrations. They can cause unwanted overtones and distortions and therefore need to be suppressed (damped). For this purpose, various damping mats are placed on the support disc, and, for example, acrylic discs themselves do a good job of damping the vibrations of the record. But all these measures will only give a result if the record is pressed tightly and evenly to the mat/disc. In addition, some records can warp (curve) over time or due to improper storage, which worsens the adhesion to the support disc and also leads to vibrations of the cartridge during playback.

An interesting and universal solution are models that work on the principle of clamps. They also come in different types and create pressure on the record by engaging with the spindle of the support disk. Many of these clamps have a collet mechanism inside that is compressed when the top cover is screwed on. You need to press such a clamp down with your finger and then screw the cover on - and the record will be securely fixed. Also, clamps of this class use an additional mechanism that allows for high clamping force even with slight finger pressure.
